Can I be Authentic, Conscious minded, AND on-trend?

LET'S TALK FASHION

Is it possible? How can I authentically approach my style to remain true to myself, shop consciously (when encouraged not to shop at all) yet participate in the new trends I'm interested in?

Embrace being Timeless & Know yourself.

Knowing what you do and don't like is the best place to start. Cultivate a cohesive wardrobe based on comfort, fit, and quality. Aim for a somewhat specific color palette for cohesivity when mixing various items. It helps if everything matches! When shopping with trends in mind, try to find items you won't want to toss when the trend has passed.

Here are some tips for shopping trends from a conscious perspective.

  • Trendy cut + Timeless Color = On trend, but authentic to my style and likely hood of being worn after the trend has passed. (This could also be Trendy Color + Timeless cut)

  • Versatility. How many items will this match? If you have to shop to finish the fit chances are this item is too trendy and clashes with your style.

If you reeeeaaaallly can't live without it here's a sustainable styling hack. Try to mix a trendy item with a timeless outfit. For Example -Leopard Flats can be worn with a white tee and jeans. (two items already in your closet)

  • Understand what cuts and silhouettes feel good. The better it feels, the more often you wear it.

  • Be real. Consider your day-to-day activities and the attire required. Do you need business wear for the office or is your job physically demanding and require comfort and movement? Shop your style, but be sure you are actually wearing what you buy or your closet will remain feeling empty.

  • Invest in the basics. You've heard it, but it's true. The basics are the fundamentals or "core" of your outfit. Use accessories or pieces with character to cultivate your style with ease.

  • When trying to be trendy, invest in the accessories. It's much easier to grab a few bag charms, scarves, and a new necklace or two than transform your entire wardrobe.
